Tour Highlights:

1. Giethoorn – The Venice of the North:
The first stop today is Giethoorn, known as the Venice of the North. Here, we will take a boat trip through the canals (included). Depending on your preferences, you can either cruise with your own boat or join a guided boat tour. The breathtaking scenery of this water town will be captured for a lifetime. Please let me take pictures of you and your group so everyone is in the photo.

2. Lemmer and Woudagemaal – Friesland Province:
After lunch, the next stop will be in Lemmer, located in Friesland, another province of Holland, where they have their own language, “het Fries.” Here, we will visit the Woudagemaal, the world’s largest still-functioning steam pumping station and a UNESCO World Heritage site (admission fee: €12 per person, closed in January and every Monday). The view from the visitor center overlooking the lake is simply amazing.

3. Afsluitdijk – The Enclosure Dike:
From Lemmer, it’s about a 30-minute ride to the mighty Afsluitdijk, the enclosure dike. In the middle of this 32 km-long dike, we will have a quick stop at the monument.

After a long day of exploration, it will be a 1-hour drive back to Amsterdam.

– Instead of visiting the Woudagemaal, it is also possible to visit the museum in Schokland and its surroundings. This former island has now been reclaimed and provides insight into how the Dutch landscape was formed. This is also a UNESCO World Heritage site (admission fee: €10 per person).
